Brief

“Lacquered display unit with maple top and design to match existing kitchen style. Unit needs to incorporate laptop computer use and hide exposed pipes and switch box.”

This customer required a display unit for his newly extended kitchen. The design needed to complement his existing hand-made maple kitchen in style.

An outline plan of the proposed piece was included in architects’ drawings but without specific details relating to its design. One important element to consider was that the customer wished to sit at the piece to use his laptop computer. The design also had to allow for pipes and electrical switches.

We had a number of meetings with the customer to discuss the format of the piece, door layouts and proportions. This was followed by a scale CAD drawing for the customers approval.

On approval of the drawing and written quotation the piece was hand made over 6 weeks in our workshops. The piece was spray finished with a durable coloured lacquer, apart from the solid maple top, which was polished to tie in with the existing kitchen.

The site fitting was carried out by the same craftsman who made the piece, ensuring full continuity throughout the commission.
